We are using custom fields a lot and it would be nice to have a simmilar handling of the UserPreferences.config file like the license file, that it can be placed in the folder of the executable.
The idea would be to use this file as a template for the file that is created in %appdata%\code4ward and maybe use a second file for unchangeable values (like with a GPO).
Saving the file in c:\users\default does only work for newly created profiles, so this is also not work reliable.
Another approach could be to extend the group policies.
