Native Full Screen in MacOS

I'm connecting from a 27" 1440p iMac to a new headless Macbook Pro using VNC (Screen Sharing).  There is still blank space on the top, bottom, and sides even with scaling on and full screen mode.  How an I get the true full screen experience?

Also, I'm assuming the connection itself is not encrypted but are credentials transmitted encrypted?

Hi there,

in stark contrast to how RDP works, VNC doesn't allow automatically adjusting the remote screen resolution to match your local resolution. Thus, if you want both to match and get rid of any blank spaces, you will need to ensure that your remote host uses the exact same resolution as your local Mac.

Yes, the credentials are transmitted encrypted.
